Spring into a New Relationship with Your HEART: How to improve your heart health.

Just like any relationship it’s fragile and needs working on. The heart can be sudden and intense if we don’t nurture it. When we take care of our heart, we have more pizzazz which makes us feel happier. Our happiness will not guarantee a healthy heart, but certainly springing into a new relationship with the muscle will add years to our well-being.

We all get caught up with work, deadlines, kids, activities and by the time we have a second for ourselves we are beat. Being beat may pump us with eating badly, not exercising, quick temperament, and neglecting important relationships. Bad habits like these lead to dispirited days while our heart has to accept the consequences.

It’s important to remember our relationships are the reflections of the choices we make every day. So it’s time for us to tick at a new rate and commit to a healthier heart. In order for us to shape up, we need to get on the right HEART track.

HAPPINESS – Just as depression may increase the risk of heart disease, new research speculates that happiness may protect the heart. It doesn’t take a doctor to diagnose happiness. It’s bright, exciting and steady. Happiness even controls stress hormones that can be damaging to our heart. When we feel good our body releases endorphins. We sleep better, eat better, and are motivated to exercise more.

EXERCISE – It’s the way to stimulate our blood flow. Engaging in daily physical activity lowers blood pressure, increases energy, improves circulation, and most importantly strengthens your relationship with the heart. Intimacy does too! Fitting that exercise not only boosts our self-esteem it makes us glow. Inactive lifestyles have a higher risk for heart disease.

APPETITE – A happy heart eats right. Your heart is the size of your fist clenched which ironically is a tool for portion control. Controlling your portion size is an important factor in maintaining a healthy waistline. Eat your greens, get fruity, sauce on the side, limit the carbs, and don’t add more salt. Fish is lean with protein, spinach is the best heart greens, beans work our cardiovascular system, oatmeal lowers cholesterol, and getting a little nutty here and there are all ways to rev up our heart healthy ways.

REST – As we acknowledged earlier we all get caught up in our busy schedules that we become rundown sometimes. It’s time to refresh ourselves by relaxing, lying down and sleeping. Let’s put the IPad down, take a warm shower, put on cozy sweats, and spend some quality time with ourselves. Now that’s a healthy relationship. It’s time to rest. Rest is one of the most important components of a healthy heart. If we don’t take the time to rest we lack the energy we need to succeed.

TUNE-UP – A healthy heart is vital for longevity. So just like cars need a tune-up, we do too. We need to make an appointment to see our doctor at least once a year. And not dismiss not feeling right because it isn’t convenient. If our brakes started to squeak, what would we do? We wouldn’t ignore the sound so don’t ignore what your body is telling you. Get a tune-up today.

Stress is something that people just cannot seem to avoid and it could have a major impact on the health of both your heart and your mind. If you haven’t done so, I would highly suggest that you check out the first part of this post. That way, you will be able to find more tips to help reduce stress and have a much healthier lifestyle. After you’ve done that, you can read below for some tips that could save your life or at least make you a much more healthy person.

If you want to be able to rid yourself of stress, you should try to find some activities that put you in a happy place. For instance, if you have a pet, consider taking it for a walk. If not, you could go for a jog, go swimming or cycling. All of these will not only be smart ways to reduce stress, but they are also physical activities that will be able to keep you fit. You should consider doing these on a regular basis, so you can always keep your stress levels in check.

Believe it or not, music can help relieve stress, as well. If you want to improve your mood, no matter where you are at, you can listen to some music and you will begin relieving stress in no time. Whenever you begin to feel symptoms of being stressed, put on some of your favorite music and enjoy it.

Lastly, it is time that you start saying “no” to certain people. If you do not feel comfortable taking on more than you can chew, simply tell people that you do not want to do it. People are very good when it comes to manipulating your schedule and taking advantage of others. If you don’t feel comfortable, all you have to do is just say no.

Stress is something in life that is almost impossible to avoid. No matter how hard you try to avoid it, it is most likely going to sneak up and bring you down. What is even worse is the fact that stress can have a major negative impact on the health of your heart. Stress can cause many things, such as a higher heart rate, higher blood pressure and your body will also release stress hormones. Since you obviously are not going to be able to completely avoid stress, you have to learn how to deal with stress in a healthy way, so you can keep your mind and your heart at ease. Therefore, I am going to give you some tips that will help you reduce stress.

The first thing you will want to do is to begin building a great support system around you. You should talk with your significant other and your family members about trying to be more healthy and more stress free. If you tell them that you are trying to do this, they will most likely be able to help you out with your goal and try not to put you through so much. Also, you could consider joining some sort of support group with other like-minded people.

Secondly, you have to begin picking out the things in your life that causes you stress. For instance, it could be your job, your relationship, family members, friends, traffic jams, etc… People are stressed out by a lot of different situations, so you have to find out what is causing you stress. After that, you can begin working on ways to avoid being stressed out.

Make sure that you give yourself some relaxation time on a daily basis. If you can give yourself some personal time, you will be able to rid stress from your life. Even if you are just giving yourself twenty minutes out of the day to devote to yourself, you will find that you will be in a much better mood and not take on as much stress.

Contrary to popular belief, heart murmurs for the most part are actually innocent. Most of the time, heart murmurs are caused by blood that is flowing through healthy valves in a healthy heart and they do not require treatment. However, heart murmurs can be bad, too. They can give you signs that there is some blow flowing through damaged or overworked heart valves. Heart murmurs can actually be present when someone is born or they could be the result of other illnesses such as heart disease, heart attacks, rheumatic fever or infective endocarditis.

In most cases, heart murmurs are spotted whenever going to the Doctor for the purpose of a physical examination. While listening through the stethoscope, a Doctor will most likely be able to hear your heart murmur. In order to determine whether or not your heart murmur is bad or good, they may order one of the following tests:

Electrocardiogram (ECG) which will be able to measure the electrical activity of your heart.

X-rays of your chest in order to see if the heart is enlarged due to heart disease or valve disease.

Echocardiography, which will employ sound waves that will be able to map out the structure of your heart.

If you have a heart murmur and you begin to suffer from the following symptoms, you should contact your doctor immediately:

Chest pain

Breathlessness

Fatigue

Fainting

Heart palpitations

Unfortunately for a lot of people, they have no clue that eating certain foods can actually increase the risk of heart disease. What is even more important is that it can be a very tough task to change up your eating habits. Either way, you have to make a change if you do not want to potentially suffer from heart disease. Once you get an idea of the foods you are allowed to eat more of and ones that you are going to have to cut back on, you will be able to achieve a diet that is healthy for your heart.

First of all, you want to control how much you eat. When you go to eat, you have to remember that how much you eat is just as important as what you are eating. When you load down your plate, you are going to consume more calories, fat and cholesterol than what is good for you. Whenever you go to the restaurant, you will usually receive more food with your order than you actually need. Even when you are at the restaurant you should take portion sizes into consideration and eat what is right for you and avoid overeating. Keep serving sizes in mind when you eat.

Remember when you were a kid and your parents would try to get you to eat your vegetables? Whether you like them or not, you are going to have to get to like them if you want to have a healthy heart. Also, you should eat plenty of fruit, as well. Fruits and vegetables are low in calories and they are a rich source for dietary fiber. Also, eating fruits and veggies will help prevent you from eating other foods that are high in fat content. You should always keep fruit and vegetables washed and handy around your house. That way, when you need a quick snack, you can pick up an apple or a piece of celery and be on your way.

If you want to be able to regulate your blood pressure and keep a healthy heart, you may want to introduce more whole grains into your diet. Whole grains are great sources for fiber and other nutrient that you need in order to have a healthy heart. Just consider making substitutes in your daily diet to be able to add some more whole grain. Also, I would highly advise adding flaxseed to your diet. Flaxseed is a small seed that is packed with fiber and omega-3 fatty acids. You can buy flaxseed and mix it into your food or get food that already had flaxseed in it. Some cereals even come with flaxseed already mixed in them.

If you want to limit your risk of heart disease, you have to be on the proper diet. As you can see with the tips I have outlined above, you have to eat right in order to live a nice and healthy life. Just make these simple changes to your diet and you will be much better off for it. Not only will you limit your risk of heart disease, but you will be a much healthier and happier person in general.

The major Cardiovascular Risk Factors that increase your chance of getting heart disease include:

Elevated Blood Cholesterol Levels:
A relationship exists between the amount of cholesterol circulating in the blood and the accumulation of fatty deposits on the artery walls, which can lead to restricted blood flow. Blood cholesterol levels above 240 mg/dl is considered high risk, a level of 240 to 200 mg/dl is considered moderate risk and below 200 mg/dl is considered low risk. Your total level of cholesterol is comprised of two major components, HDL and LDL. HDL is considered a good component and LDL is considered bad. Your ratio of HDL to LDL cholesterol is a factor in looking at your overall cholesterol level. LDL levels should not be above 130 mg/dl and HDL levels should not be below 35 mg/dl. Also pay close attention to your triglyceride levels.

A useful nutritional supplement can help to reduce your cholesterol level. Check out this Cholesterol Reducing Supplement

High Blood Pressure :

Family History of Coronary Heart Disease:
This is especially important as you have no control over your family history. It could be social, lifestyle, diet and other characteristics in your family that included many risk factors for heart disease and created your poor family history or your family is genetically predisposed to certain conditions. It is especially important to minimize all other risk factors that you have control over.

Cigarette Smoking:
Cigarette smoking also contributes to a variety of illnesses such as an increased risk of cancer and the inhalation of toxic chemicals. Cigarette smoking interferes with the oxygen carrying capability of the blood. The more you smoke the higher your risk

Blood pressure measures the pressure in the circulatory system when the heart is contracting and relaxing. During contraction this is called the systolic pressure and a level above 140 is considered high. During relaxation this is called diastolic pressure and a level above 90 is considered high. Normal resting blood pressure is about 120/80 mm Hg.

Diabetes:
Type I type diabetes is insulin dependent or juvenile-onset and is the result of insufficient insulin production from the pancreas. Type II diabetes is non-insulin dependent or adult onset and is caused by the unresponsiveness of the body tissues to insulin. This condition exists with blood glucose levels at or above 140 mg/dl during a fasting period.

Severe Obesity:
Levels Body fat levels above 25% for males and 30% for females is considered obese. Stressful Lifestyle: A lifestyle of consistent pressure and stress may contribute to heart disease. A lot of recent changes in your life can adversely affect your risk. You may benefit from this natural diet supplement that helps keep your weight down and at the same time does not deprive you of vital nutrients: Try the ADVANCED DIET SUPPLEMENT if you find it difficult to maintain your ideal weight.

Sedentary Lifestyle:
Lack of regular appropriate physical activity has a debilitating effect on the body and contributes to other risk factors. We need to be conscious of these risk factors and take the necessary steps to reduce and eliminate them. In almost all risk factors, exercise and physical activity can have a positive physiological and psychological impact to reduce or remove the contributor to heart disease.

Stress and lack of sleep can increase the risk of heart disease. If you exercise well, even if it is just walking it will promote your feelings of relaxation and help you to sleep well. You can also try meditation. This has shown to be beneficial in stress and sleep conditions.

However, sometimes you need some help especially if you just can’t sleep. There is no need to resort to sleeping tablets though.

To ensure a good rest for every day energy requirements as well as to cope with stress you can try the Supreme Sleep Formula from Mdhealthline.com.

Millions of people suffer from insomnia. They toss and turn in bed and are unable to sleep. Many others wake up frequently during the night. That’s why “sleeping pills” are the most popular drugs on the market.

A completely natural dietary supplement, Supreme Sleep supports a tranquillising night’s sleep. It is effective yet free of side effects and completely non-addictive.

Supreme Sleep contains the herbs Valerian, Chamomile, Peppermint, Passion Flower, Hops, Skullcap, and natural Melatonin.

Valerian Root - is well known for its relaxing and sleep-inducing effects. In fact, the drug Valium was developed to mimic the main ingredient of the Valerian plant. Valerian acts as a sedative, antispasmodic and diuretic. Although valerian is chemically unrelated to Valium, it is recognized world wide for its relaxing effect on the body. In Europe, it is often prescribed to treat anxiety. Unlike many of the prescription drugs commonly used in the United States for this purpose like Valium and Xanax, valerian does not have unpleasant side effects. Valerian should not be combined with alcohol as the two greatly exaggerate each other’s effect on the body.

Chamomile - is known for its calming effect on smooth muscle tissue, and is a popular remedy for nervous stomach, menstrual cramps, and problems related to stress. Since 1600, Europeans have used chamomile as a cure for insomnia, neuralgia, back pain, and rheumatism. They were not the first to discover this herb as the ancient Egyptians included chamomile in their arsenal of herbal cures.

Peppermint - has been used since ancient times. It is one of the oldest of all medicinal herbs. Peppermint was used for everything from hiccups to hives. stings. In medieval times, many people depended on its aroma to rid their homes of vermin and noxious odours. Today, peppermint is most often used for its soothing effect on the stomach. The antispasmodic effects of the herb are useful for relieving indigestion, nausea and intestinal gas. In addition, peppermint tea is recommended for headaches, as is used as a mild sedative.

Passion Flower – (Passiflora incarnata) was discovered in the 1600′s by a Jesuit priest. The plant derives its name from the way its structure is said to resemble Christ’s Crucifixion or Passion: the five petals and five sepals are the ten apostles (less Judas and Peter), the three pistils correlate to the nails of the cross, and the ring of filaments represent the crown of thorns. Passiflora incarnata has been used for centuries as an aid to sleep. It was used by the Aztecs as a sedative and analgesic. Studies have demonstrated its use as a sedative and mild analgesic. The beneficial effects stem from the flavonoid and harman alkaloid content. Although most preparations contain only small amounts of these harman alkaloids (about one tenth of one percent), this is sufficient to produce relaxation and sleepiness.

Hops - (humulus lupulus) is famous as a relaxing and calming herb that makes it possible to fall asleep naturally. This plant is actually one of the oldest known plants used for preparing teas, tonics, beverages, and poultices. Hops have incredible holistic value. They have tonic, nervine, diuretic and anodiyne properties. Their volatile oil produces sedative and soporific effects and the bitter principle is stomachic and tonic. For this reason, hops can improve the appetite and help promote sleep. Hop juice also cleanses the blood and has comparable benefits with Sarsaparilla

Skullcap - Skullcap was first brought to the attention of physicians in the West in 1772 as a cure for rabies. A New England physician claimed his experiments proved the herb prevented and cured “hydrophobia”. Over the next hundred years, herbalists used skullcap as a digestive aid and tranquilliser. Skullcap entered the U.S. Pharmacopoeia in 1863 as a tranquilizer. It remained there until 1916, when it moved to the National Formulary, the pharmacists’ reference, where it remained until 1947. Contemporary herbalists recommend skullcap as a tranquilizer for insomnia, nervous tensions, and premenstrual syndrome.

Melatonin - is a substance normally produced by the pineal gland. One of its functions is to produce natural uninterrupted sleep. Unfortunately, the amount of Melatonin is reduced as we get older. It is also depleted in response to stress, caffeine and alcohol. Melatonin is often used to treat jet lag, insomnia, and for boosting the immune system. Melatonin re-sets the circadian rhythms of the body’s “inner clock,” by lowering body temperature, which, in turn, controls the sleep/wake cycle. Melatonin is also known for its role in protecting against cancer, aiding stroke victims in recovering from brain damage, and for relieving some of the acute effects of migraine headaches.

Most people are aware that smoking, lack of exercise, a high fat diet, high blood pressure and high cholesterol level compound the risk of heart disease many, many fold. However, what is less evident to work out is your risk profile if you smoke a few and do a little exercise but eat good food? What if you smoke moderately and do vigorous exercise? What if you are diabetic, don’t smoke do a little exercise and have had a lot of changes recently in your life? Imagine the complexity of working out your risk when dozens of risk factors operate in different variations and combinations- that is why often you hear: ”John always exercised and he a had a perfect cholesterol level, I just don’t understand how he had a heart attack”. The truth is, heart disease often results from many factors operating in complex ways.

There are of course dozens of free online tests which can give you an indication of your general risk from heart disease, including the one from the American Heart Association.

The Heart Health Analyzer calculates your risk from very low to very high risk pictorially on a graph based on a multi- factor analysis. Further, we recommend that you work with your physician (e.g. get a full lipid blood profile test annually) and use the heart health analyzer software to get a composite picture of your risk profile. We strongly believe that just knowing your cholesterol value is not enough. It is the composite of all critical factors that finally determine your risk.

In other words cholesterol value is an important risk factor but insufficient by itself to determine your risk.

The Heart Health Analyzer is an inexpensive and indispensable tool allowing you to perform ‘what if analysis’ on your personal risk factors.
